NY Ski Mountains
Did you know that there are 43 ski mountains in New York? That is more than any other state in the Country! These 43 ski mountains are spread throughout Western and Upstate NY and each offer their own unique charm and character. The Catskill Mountains are located just 2 – 2.5 hours north of New York City and are home to 5 of the NY Ski Mountains. Their easy accessibility in addition to their wide range of terrain and consistent snow conditions make them the perfect destination for your upstate New York ski trip.
Is skiing in NY safe given Covid-19?
If done properly skiing and snow boarding can be a safe and fun winter activity even in the age of COVID-19. Face coverings and goggles are common ski attire and are also believed to be helpful in slowing the spread of COVID-19. Any activity presents a risk of exposure to COVID-19 and therefore cannot be deemed 100% safe.
Things to consider when planning a ski trip
- Your comfort and risk level – Given the threat of COVID-19 not everyone will feel comfortable traveling nor should everyone travel. Above all, it is important to know your individual risk level before going to a ski mountain.
- State Travel Regulations – All states are implementing their own travel advisories and restrictions. Therefore, you will need to know how these advisories impact and affect you. Information on the NY State travel advisory can be found here. If traveling from out of state be sure to find your own states travel information.
- NY Ski Mountain Policies – While all the ski mountains are dedicated to providing a safe environment the specific policies do differ from one mountain to the next. You should familiarize yourself with their safety guidelines and cancellation policies.
- Plan Ahead – Many of the ski mountains in New York State are limiting capacity. Additionally many are only selling lift tickets in advance and not offering tickets for sale at the mountain.
