Winter Clove Inn & Resort offers over 15 miles of hiking trails accessible directly from our front door plus we are only a short drive from some of the most iconic Catskill Mountain hiking trails. 

Here are just a few of our favorite onsite and nearby trails:

• Rip’s Rock – An onsite hike that is just under 5 miles round trip and offers some of the best views of the Hudson River Valley. 
• Venus Bath – A short onsite hike that is 1 mile round trip and follows the Winter Clove Brook with several small waterfalls and cascades. 
• Hunter Mountain Fire Tower – A 25 minute drive to the trail head followed by a 6 mile round trip hike that leads to a decommissioned fire tower offering panoramic views of the Catskill Mountains. 
• Mountain House Overlook – A 25 minute drive to the trail head followed by an under 1 mile hike/walk to an overlook offering views of the Hudson Valley.

The Catskill Mountains are home to some of the most beautiful waterfalls on the east coast. Here are some of the must-see waterfalls on your next Catskills family vacation.  

• Kaaterskill Falls – The gem of The Catskills. Located 20 minutes from the resort with a variety of viewing and hiking options this is one of the tallest waterfalls on the east coast. 
• Artist Falls – Located on the grounds of Winter Clove Inn & Resort this 30 foot waterfalls features a covered bridge directly above the falls.
• Platekill Falls – Located 30 minutes from Winter Clove this Catskill Mountain Waterfalls plunges over 65’ and is an easy hike from the parking area. 
• Waterfalls at every turn – The Catskill Mountains are full of picturesque waterfalls and cascades. Check out our list of the best waterfalls in the Catskill region.

While Winter Clove has its own 9-hole course there are several 18-hole courses with-in 25 minutes of the resort.

• Thunderheart Country Club – 6,482 yards, par 72, views of The Catskills, water/sand hazards throughout. 22 minutes from the resort.
• Christmans Windham – 7,150 yards, par 72, USGA rated, and several views of the Catskill Mountains. 30 minutes form the resort.
• Island Green – 6,283 yards, par 73, the only island green in The Catskills. 30 minute drive from the resort.
• Windham Country Club – 6,333 yards, par 72, scenic views. 25 minute drive from the resort.

• Rail Trial – Paddle a rail car along a decommissioned railroad track surrounded by breathtaking natural beauty. 45 minute drive from Winter Clove Inn & Resort. 
• Sky Ride – Enjoy a scenic ride on the summit chair lift at either Windham or Hunter Mountian. Both offer scenic views of the surrounding Catskill Mountains and are located 25 minutes from the resort. 
• Horseback Riding – Connect with nature and a time past. Multiple ranches within 20 minutes of the resort but we recommend K&K Equestrian, which is a 20 minute drive from the resort. 
• Paddling – Kayaking, Canoeing, Stand-up: There is something for everyone, with lakes, streams, and rivers all within 25 minutes and multiple rental locations available.

Small town America is alive and well in the Catskill region. Whether your family spends an hour or a full day these Catskills towns have plenty to explore. 

• Hudson – This early 1800’s town along the Hudson River offers a reborn main street with antique shops, cafes, galleries, and boutiques. 
• Saugerties – Located 20 minutes from Winter Clove, Saugerties has a lively downtown with antique shops, galleries, and cafes. 
• Catskill – An old brick town, now known for its eateries, breweries, cafes, and boutique stores mixed in. 
• Woodstock – Yup, that Woodstock. Although not where either festival occurred, they were named for this nearby town that now serves as a “hippy paradise”. Arts stores and galleries galore with great food and drink at every stop.

The Catskill Mountains are full of great breweries, cideries and wineries. While there is no wrong choice, here is our top favorites. 

• Rip Van Winkle Brewing Company – A full service restaurant offering an impressive selection of in-house brews. 
• Cross Roads Brewery – Award winning in-house brews and locally sourced wine and ciders. 
• Left Bank Ciders – Offer a selection of hard ciders made from locally sourced apples. 
• Subversive Malting – Locally sourced ingredients, plus their own in-house malting make their offerings true unique.
• Old Factory Brewing – Great in-house drafts, relaxed atmosphere, and several TVs to catch a game.

Referred to as “the new mecca for artisans” by the New York Times, the Catskill Region is full of art, theater, performances, and museums of all varieties.

• NY Museum of Firefighting – The world’s largest firefighting museum, a perfect Catskill family activity for those with children. 
• Thomas Cole National Historic Site – The former house of Thomas Cole, the founder of the Hudson River School of Art. Often considered the earliest art movement/culture originated in the new America. 
• Olana State Historic Site – The former estate of Frederic Church, one of America’s first and most famous Catskill Mountain painters.  
• Bridge Street Theater – Stop by for a play, musical, or other live performance.
• Bronck House Museum – A 1600’s Catskill Mountain family farm now offering a glimpse into early colonial life and farming.
